This blanket was donated to the College of Forestry from Mr. Ferguson. His father, Roland Howard Ferguson, went to Oregon State University in 1927. Before he graduated, he was invited to join Xi Sigma Pi. As he recalls his Dad telling it, during the summers of his junior and senior years, he was a fire spotter on a tower in Oregon (or possibly Washington). Someone from the forest service came up with provisions for him only once a month. With that limited contact, he had a lot of personal time on his hands. So, sitting on a mountaintop, he stitched the artwork on the attached quilt photos. The colors of the threads are still quite vivid. My Dad has passed, so at this point in time I don’t have lot to go on to clarify and verify this recollection. No one in the family wanted it, so it was donated to the College of Forestry. He reached out to Mark Kimsey of the Xi Sigma Pi National Office, who suggested contacting his alma mater. Mark Kimsey remarked that "the insignia design that your father stitched into the quilt has been lost for some time – until now!!!"
