McDonald Forest: A Century of Dynamic Landscapes
Join Historian Bill Robbins in this video as he traces the story of Peavy Arboretum and the McDonald Forest from their pre-OSU land uses to their roles today as living laboratories for research, teaching and community engagement. Drawing on archival history and long-term ecological perspectives, Robbins highlights how early management, evolving scientific priorities and shifting public values have shaped these dynamic forests — and why they remain essential to understanding and stewarding our regional landscapes. This presentation was the first lecture in the 2026 Starker Lecture Series.

FORESTRY & NATURAL RESOURCES EXTENSION
Tree School Lane brings wide-ranging natural resources learning
Tree School Lane, organized by Oregon State University’s Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Program, featured 32 classes designed to support the successful management of Oregon’s woodlands and to complement year-long natural resources education programs offered by Extension and its collaborators. The event brought woodland owners, forestry professionals and community members together for expert-led classes on forest management, reforestation, wildfire preparedness and tree care.
