Families and community members in Benton and Linn counties are invited to attend a free event celebrating outdoor recreation, forest education and healthy living on May 30 at Peavy Arboretum, in Oregon State University’s McDonald-Dunn Research Forest, just north of Corvallis.
OSU Research Forests, the OSU Extension Service and the Benton County Health Department will host the 10th annual National Get Outdoors Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30. The nationwide initiative encourages people of all ages to explore and enjoy the outdoors through accessible recreational activities.
More than 25 local organizations and community partners will offer activities designed to engage visitors and connect youth with the outdoors. Bilingual volunteers speaking Spanish and English will provide interpretation throughout the day.
Activities will include free fishing for youth ages 12 and younger, art projects and hands-on demonstrations. Food will be available for purchase on-site, and attendees are welcome to bring picnic lunches.
Shuttle service will be provided from Crescent Valley High School in Corvallis, as on-site parking at the arboretum will be unavailable during the event.
