Get ready to sip cocoa, decorate cookies and step into a forest of festive creativity — Firs for Food Security is back, and this year’s celebration is merrier than ever!

From 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, the College of Forestry will showcase 15 beautifully decorated trees, created by student clubs, campus units and local Corvallis businesses. From Glowworm Wonderland and Beachside Benny to Feathered Forest and Penguin Winter Wonderland, each tree has its own theme and style. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re looking for décor ideas or just want to enjoy the holiday atmosphere.

And the best part? You can take a tree home, with bids accepted both in person and online. The online auction runs through Thursday, Dec. 4, at 5 p.m., giving you plenty of time to place bids.

But the event isn’t just about holiday fun — it’s about supporting students. All proceeds go directly to Rootstock, the College of Forestry’s student food pantry.

College of Forestry students have among the highest financial need at OSU. Staffed by dedicated faculty and staff volunteers and funded by generous donors, Rootstock was founded in 2022 to support students with weekly access to fresh food, pantry staples and hygiene items. It has become an essential resource for students who need a little extra support to stay focused, healthy and successful.

When you show up to admire the trees and place a bid, you’re helping fill Rootstock’s shelves — and helping ensure that College of Forestry students don’t have to choose between groceries and their education.

Curious to learn more about Rootstock? Stop by the Firs For Food Security information booth on Dec. 2 to chat with a volunteer. You can also explore the Rootstock strategic plan or make a direct gift online

A huge thank you to all of our Rootstock donors, volunteers for their continued support, and to Starker Forests, Inc., for donating the trees that make this event possible.
