Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported this year’s Dam Proud Day. From the Roots Run 5K in the McDonald Forest to the ice cream social in the PFSC atrium, it was great to see so many of you come together to connect, celebrate and reflect on what makes the College of Forestry community so special.
A few highlights from the day:
- 100 participants for 100 years — 100 people crossed the finish line (both in-person and virtually) for the Roots Run 5K, celebrating the McDonald Forest’s centennial. Together, you raised more than $13,600 for Rootstock, our volunteer-run, donor-funded food pantry — essentially funding it for the year.
- The snail got slimed (again) — despite shaving a minute off of his time this year, eight runners crossed the finish line ahead of Dean Tom DeLuca (up from six last year). Browse the photo gallery here, and scroll down for race times by bib number.
- We all screamed for ice cream — hundreds gathered in the PFSC atrium to connect, celebrate and share what makes them Dam Proud. Curious what people had to say? Watch the video from the ice cream social on Instagram.
- Support for our research forests — more than $44,000 was raised for the Research Forest Discovery Fund, supporting hands-on learning, research and public access across our 18,000 acres of forestlands.
Together, the College of Forestry community raised nearly $149,000, placing No. 7 across all OSU divisions and fourth among colleges — an impressive showing for a college our size.
A special thank you to the donors who made more than $130,000 in challenge gifts possible this year: Hull Oakes Lumber Co. / Ralph Hull Foundation; Loren and Peggy Kellogg; Jim and Tricia Murphy; Norm Michaels and Dawn Pozzani; Oregon Forest Industries Council; Sam and Kellie Sanders; and Eric and Carrie Thompson / Thompson Timber Foundation.
