College of Forestry welcomes 2026 Branching Borders interns

Published on

The Oregon State University College of Forestry is excited to welcome six international student interns as part of the 2026 Branching Borders program.

Running from July 13 through September 13, the annual international research internship brings students from partner universities around the world to Oregon State to work alongside College of Forestry faculty on research projects while experiencing forestry education and culture in the Pacific Northwest.

This year's interns represent six countries and five universities, bringing expertise and interests that span wood science, forest management, wildfire, carbon, remote sensing and sustainable construction. Throughout the summer, they will contribute to projects ranging from natural wood colorants and engineered wood products to mangrove carbon monitoring, wildfire risk modeling and forest harvesting systems.

The 2026 Branching Borders cohort includes:

  • Alexis Dorado (Philippines), National Taiwan University, working with Gerald Presley
  • Evelīna Afanasjeva (Latvia), Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, working with Bogdan Strimbu
  • Furkan Riaz (Chile), Universidad Austral de Chile, working with Carlos Gonzalez
  • Peter Romih (Slovenia), University of Primorska, working with Eric Hansen
  • Nam Tri Huynh (Vietnam), Nong Lam University, working with Jacob Bukoski and Heesung Woo
  • Yi Ping Chang (Taiwan), National Taiwan University, working with Woody Chung

In addition to gaining research experience, the interns will exchange ideas with faculty, staff and students while sharing perspectives from their home institutions and countries. The program strengthens international partnerships and creates opportunities for collaboration that extend well beyond the summer.

Please join us in welcoming the 2026 Branching Borders interns to the College of Forestry!
