This highly customizable degree blends science, policy and practice to address the complex challenges of forest sustainability. Gain a solid foundation in sustainable forest management principles, experimental design and statistical analysis, and hands-on techniques for enhancing forest health, productivity and ecosystem services. Students tailor their studies through one of six areas of concentration (M.S./Ph.D.) or three professional pathways (M.F.), equipping them to lead in research, policy and applied management across public and private sectors. This program is grounded in the internationally recognized Montreal Process Criteria and Indicators. 

Students from a variety of backgrounds pursue graduate degrees in Sustainable Forest Management at the College of Forestry, though most have undergraduate degrees in forestry, natural resources, engineering or a related field. Our Sustainable Forest Management graduate program is offered through our Department of Forest Engineering, Resources and Management (FERM) and may include coursework in other departments at Oregon State University. Thesis research typically draws on the strengths of these related departments, with their faculty serving on the graduate committees of our students.
