Land of the Long White Cloud: Ecosystems of New Zealand

Timing: September 10 - 22, 2025 Applications for the 2025 course are now closed.

Explore the other side of the world with College of Forestry faculty while learning about forest ecology and resource management in a changing climate.

New Zealand is a country of stunning landscapes – vibrant forests, spectacular mountains, alpine grasslands – and fascinating indigenous Maori culture.  A leader in progressive action on climate change, carbon sequestration, and conservation, New Zealand also has a highly productive timber industry which is critical to its resource- and export-driven economy.  Students will delve into forest ecology and resource management on both the North and South Island – visiting native and plantation forests, bubbling geothermal hotspots, and a field station located in the majestic scenery of the Southern Alps.  And for fans of Lord of the Rings, there’s a special visit to the Hobbiton film set.
