Fachhochschule Salzburg

The Salzburg University of Applied Sciences or Fachhochschule Salzburg is located in Kuchl, Austria, just south of the city of Salzburg. College of Forestry Wood Science & Engineering students can take undergraduate or graduate-level classes at a smaller university, with only 2,700 students, in programs such as Forest Products Technology & Timber Construction or Smart Building. There are sufficient courses taught in English for one term of exchange and intensive language courses in German if you have an interest in staying longer! Founded in 1995, this university focuses on preparing its students for careers in the current market with its qualified staff from both educational and industry backgrounds. The university is considered a pioneer of future-oriented programs in such areas as Tourism, Business Management, or Forest Products. FH Salzburg also partners with more than 100 institutions worldwide, adding another international component to this international exchange!

Scholarships for Austria

Ernst Mach Grant

The Austrian Ministry of Science and Research offers the Ernst Mach Grant for students who plan to study at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences (including Fachhochschule Salzburg) for 4-10 months. With 1150 Euros a month, this grant allows students to cover most of their living costs in Austria.

Who can apply for the grant? 

Undergraduate and graduate students who...

  • have non-European citizenship
  • have been accepted as an exchange student at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences
  • have excellent English or German language skills
  • are staying 4 to 10 months in Austria

Application Timeline: You must be nominated to apply -- so don't delay! If you plan to apply for this grant for a Fall FHS exchange, reach out to Rachael Fahrenbach no later than January 15

Application Deadline: One call per year. The online application opens in October with a final deadline of March 1st.

Marshall Plan Scholarship

 The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation was established to finance scholarships and fellowships for academic exchange between Austria and the U.S. with a special focus on universities of applied sciences and technical universities. Scholarships are $4,000 and up!

Undergraduate and graduate students who...

  • are coming from a US university
  • have been accepted as an exchange student at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences
  • are staying at least 3 months in Austria
