He/ Him

Major: Natural Resources, Urban forestry landscapes

Hometown: Albany, Oregon

In my free time I like to swim, hike, and do woodworking

When I graduate, I hope to find a job that allows me to use these skills that I have learned in NR while helping to better urban ecosystems

My advice to incoming students would be to find friends in the college of forestry. It’s a very welcoming group of people and having people to help you along the way is helpful.

What I like most about my major is the diversity of classes and subjects you get to cover.

Hudson De La Rosa

He/Him

Major: Tourism Recreation Adventure Leadership (TRAL) (Outdoor Recreation Management option)

Hometown: Villa Park, Illinois

In my free time I like to mountain bike, hike, swim, throw around a frisbee, or just do anything outdoors in general.

When I graduate, I hope to work for the National Park Service as a ranger and work part time on getting my master's in public administration and then manage national parks.

My advice for incoming students is to just try things out and see if you like them because you might find something you love.

What I like most about my major is that it's made for working as a national park ranger and I will have classes that will teach me valuable skills for this specific job.

Major/Minor: Forest Engineering/Civil Engineering (Double Major)

Hometown: Olympia, WA

“In my free time, I like to…” go hiking and be creative. I love being outdoors and hiking with friends, especially as so many hikes are close to the University! Some of my favorite creative outlets are crocheting and painting.

“When I graduate, I hope to…” Professional Land Surveying is a field that I've been looking into recently, as it is an occupation that combines historical research and exploring the outdoors.

“My advice for incoming students…” Say YES! There are so many opportunities available to you as an incoming student, and the best thing you can do to take advantage of them is to go out there and engage. Even if it's scary, the best thing you can do is put yourself out there!

“What I like most about my major” I enjoy simultaneously learning about the natural world and understanding the physical principles that rule it. I'm super excited to start taking more in-depth classes about both forestry and engineering this year.

Lindy Schwenn

Major: Natural Resources, Ecological Restoration

Hometown: Mukilteo, WA

In my free time, I like to dance, hike, and go birdwatching!

When I graduate, I hope to help educate people on how important (and awesome) the great outdoors is! Additionally, I want to research and implement effective strategies for environmental restoration and mitigation, as well as show how fun it can be.

My advice for incoming students is to EXPLORE! Take classes in subjects that interest you, attend club meetings, and make new friends. Each new experience is an opportunity for exploration, so indulge in it!

What I like most about my major is all of the hands-on learning. Each subject has a real life application, and I love any and all opportunities to get out into the forest and see what I am learning about in action.

Major: Architectural Engineering and WINS

Hometown: Eugene, OR

In my free time you can find me hanging out with my friends at the Newman Center or line dancing.

When I graduate I am hoping to get a masters in Civil Engineering with a focus on wood science.

My advice for incoming students is to be open to new experiences and to try new things.

What I like most about my major is the small class sizes and the broad understanding on wood that I am able to gain.
