Lab-based learning

Transforming classroom concepts into real-world discovery

Mechanized Harvesting Lab

The Mechanized Harvesting Lab integrates advanced machine simulation, mechanical analysis, operations research and field studies to advance knowledge of modern mechanized harvesting systems. Its mission is to deliver transformative, technology-driven research that enhances experiential learning in forest operations.

Gene D. Knudson Wood Engineering Laboratory

Located in Richardson Hall and adjacent to the Department of Wood Science and Engineering, this 3,000 sf. high-bay facility features a 12 ft L-shaped reaction wall and 60x40-ft reaction floor for dynamic testing of large wood components and structural systems. It is equipped with servo-hydraulic test systems as well as specialized features.

Soils Lab

This lab studies the connections between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems — examining soil, water, sediment, nutrients and carbon — to better understand how human activity affects forests and to promote sustainable management of natural resources.
