During our tour of
the Deschutes National
Forest with the Bend Fort Rock Ranger District
Field Rangers we went to Hosmer Lake. The Field Rangers took us on a canoe
trip. Unfortunately it was overcast
and we could not see the spectacular view of Broken Top that is next to the
lake. Instead, we canoed to the
opposite bank were we had lunch and were told some of the history of
Hosmer. The place we stopped was
close to a large stand of young dead trees, so we discussed the potential
fire hazards and what actions the Forest Service was taking in regards to
this. We also listened to the Field
Rangers talked about their work and specific duties.
We had a fun time
watching the baby ducks and racing back to the canoe “dock”.
