1. Trees of the Pacific Northwest: by Ed Jensen and Betsy Littlefield, OSU

Provides detailed information and excellent photos of conifers native to the PNW. Also includes an illustrated dichotomous key.

2. Dendrology at Virginia Tech: by John Seiler and John Peterson at VPI (with contributions on western species from Ed Jensen, OSU)

Click on "Fact Sheets " to view or print 1-page fact sheets (including color photos) on nearly 500 species of trees and shrubs (including most that we study in FOR 141/241). Also, view their class syllabus, a key to eastern trees, an "Ask Dr. Dendro " feature, and a whole lot more.

3. Silvics of North America, Volumes 1 and 2. USDA Ag. Handbook 654.

Critical for completing your term project. Contains detailed descriptions of the silvics (ecology and natural history) of the principle forest trees of North America.

2. National Register of Big Trees: American Forests

Learn about champion trees of the United States, including their circumference, height, crown spread, and location.

3. Oregon Department of Forestry

Track forest issues and practices important within Oregon.

4. Moon Trees

Did you know that the College of Forestry has a tree growing on the east
side of Peavy Hall that's been to the moon and back? Check this web site to start your exploration of "moon trees."

1. British Columbia:

The "Tree Book " will be of special interest for those interested in tree id.

2. Iowa

Iowa has trees? Check out native trees of Iowa by using an interactive key based on leaves and branches.

3. Michigan

Contains 3 keys (1 for conifers and 2 for hardwoods-summer and winter) to identify 54 species in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

4. Pines of Eastern North America (North Carolina State University)

Great photos of eastern pines, and an interesting "comparison" feature that allows you to compare two species.
