I grew up in Paderborn, Germany, as the youngest of three girls. Most
of my vacations had either the Austrian Alps or the Åland Islands as
their destination and these two places have probably influenced me, my
love for nature, and my hobbies more than any other place.
After high school graduation, I decided to study Forest Science and
Forest Ecology in Göttingen, Germany. During my undergraduate studies,
I completed internships in Spain and Chile for three months each. During
my master program, I spent half a year studying at the BOKU-University
in Vienna, Austria. This gave me the opportunities to explore the incomparable
cultural offers of Vienna (e.g., Staatsoper, Burgtheater, Vienna Philharmonics)
and to learn about Austrian forestry. I completed the Master of Science
in Göttingen in September 2004, packed my things, and came to Corvallis
to start my PhD studies in Forest Biometrics. Besides taking innumerable
statistics classes, I examine imputation techniques to estimate current
condition and change of forest attributes.
While I enjoy Corvallis and my studies at OSU, I do miss German bread,
good chocolate, the smell of beech forests, playing cards (Skat/Doppelkopf),
and an office with a window.
