Over the past 100 years, our national perspective
towards natural resources – be they forests, air, water, rangelands,
and even state and national parks – have metamorphosed. Indeed, the management
policies of government and private industry on resources have switched, flip-flopped,
and become juxtaposed. As new knowledge and priorities develop, we need to
continually critically evaluate how we use, conserve, and preserve resources.
FOR 407 will be our mechanism for dialogue. The intent of this course is to
get students thinking about use, management, and policies surrounding our natural
resources. We will be using former presentations from the Starker Lecture Series,
an on-campus series that features national and international experts in various
fields. These presentations will serve as a jump-off point for dialogue between
the students about current issues with our natural resources.
