A broad overview of forests, forestry,
forest engineering and wood science and engineering. This course is designed
for all students interested in forest
resources and human uses of those resources. It provides an overview of forest
attributes and issues world wide, with strong emphasis on the United States
and especially Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. We emphasize the importance
of forests in sustaining human societies, and we consider the appropriate roles
of humans in managing and conserving forests for the numerous products, values,
and amenities they provide.
